'Sharing the Dream' program offers scholarships

MANILA, Philippines – SCG is giving a one-year scholarship grant under “Sharing the Dream” program for 100 incoming 3rd year public high school students who are smart and have ethical character from Batangas and Bulacan where SCG’s operations are located, namely United Pulp and Paper Co., Inc. and Mariwasa Siam Ceramics, Inc. The program is also a part of the celebration of 60 years of Philippines–Thailand relations.

SCG is committed to uplift the educational development of communities where it operates. In the Philippines, SCG has started the program since 2008. The Sharing the Dream Scholarship program helps students with their day-to-day needs. The one-year scholarship covers school supplies, school uniforms, allowances and other miscellaneous expenses. 

Criteria for selection include achieving good academic record. Students should have an average grade of at least 83 percent, a Conduct grade (GMRC) of 80 percent, with no grade lower than 80 percent in any subject from the past school year. Only those with a family net income of P18,000 million monthly or lower will qualify for the scholarship.

Each nominee will be required to submit an essay to show their strong desire to be successful in life along with the application form. Qualified applicants will undergo a validation interview at SCG’s offices in United Pulp and Paper Co., Inc. (UPPC) in Bulacan or Mariwasa Siam Ceramics Inc. in Batangas. SCG will hold the ceremony to grant all the scholarships on June 13, 2009, at the Learning Center at UPPC Plant.
