8th DLSMUN: Pushing the boundaries of today’s technology

This 8th DLSMUN, the organization aims to express the theme of “Exploring the New Decade Through Digital Solutions and Social Action.”

(As published) For over 8 years De La Salle – Model United Nations (DLSMUN) has seen its fair share of struggles, problems and triumphs. Being branded as the largest Model United Nations event in the Philippines, DLSMUN prides itself on continuing the hard work that allowed the organization to prevail even amidst the pandemic. Through simulations of United Nations’ meetings, events and talks, the organization aims to lead highschool and undergraduate students to further intellectual prowess.

DLSMUN continues to provide a medium for the aspiring leaders not only in the Philippines, but across other nations as well, to sharpen their minds and develop into capable individuals who show promise of excellence inside and outside of the academe through the experience they garner.

This 8th DLSMUN, the organization aims to express the theme of “Exploring the New Decade Through Digital Solutions and Social Action.” As the organization continues the work that they have pioneered in the Philippines in the past years, DLSMUN offers innovative solutions and learning opportunities through the use of different mediums presently available.

As the world faces countless challenges, it is paramount more than ever that students are kept aware of global issues, regardless of their varying backgrounds. With this, DLSMUN aims to be the stepping stone for empowering the youth to take action – and inevitably, change the world for the better.

From the humble beginning as a small event with around 30 people, DLSMUN has grown immensely, now with the goal of amassing up to three thousand participants in all of the organization’s events. Currently, DLSMUN hosts around 120 staff members across various backgrounds, hailing from multiple colleges and universities. Aside from this, DLSMUN has a community action arm, where scholarships are provided to students needing financial assistance. Donations are also handed to a chosen community through the organizations’ digital literacy program.

This year, the organization has partnered up with multiple renowned institutions and agencies such as the Department of Science and Technology, Amnesty International, Commission on Human Rights, Greenpeace, European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, Smart Communications, Zalora, Acer, PowerMac Center and many more.

Already in its 8th year, DLSMUN has various events and initiatives in store for participants, all with the objective of sharpening the minds of the youth in preparation for success in a rapidly changing world:

Discussion Forum (March 19 and 26)

  • As one of the main activities of the 8th DLSMUN, the Discussion Forum aims to be an open platform for students to exchange ideas and opinions about varying topics. This year’s Discussion Forum revolves around four main themes namely: Technology (advancing digital literacy among developing countries), Economy (tackling sustainable and digital recovery in the post pandemic society), Politics (addressing the glass ceiling for women in governance), and Environment (exploring the impact of e-commerce in global ecosystems).

  • This discussion forum will gather notable leaders from each industry, such as speakers from the Philippine House of Representatives, Greenpeace Southeast Asia, UN Women, WorldBank, Facebook, ADB and many others!

  • Registration is currently open until March 18 (for Day 1) and March 25 (for Day 2): https://bit.ly/8thDLSMUNForum

Case Competition (April 9 and 16)

  • In partnership with UN Development Programme Philippines, students participating in the Case Competition are expected to generate innovative and applicable solutions towards global issues. The competition will be mentored and judged by varying industry experts and student leaders. As such, students are challenged to think outside the box, guided by analysis of information to develop an appropriate action plan.

Model UN Conference (May 6 to 8)

  • The heart of DLSMUN lies in its Model UN Conference – a three day event which simulates United Nations Committees in tackling real world issues, thereby developing students’ critical thinking, diplomacy, and communication.

Community Outreach (May 2022)

  • As part of the DLSMUN’s agenda, a community outreach will take place with the aim of supporting a small community and educational institution. Through the help of our corporate sponsors, we are able to gather gadgets and devices for the implementation of our digital literacy modules, as well as other useful items to aid the community. By developing a social arm this year, DLSMUN hopes to give back to its community through concrete action and implementation of sustainable programs.

With everything mentioned, the De La Salle – Model United Nations is proud to present the 8th DLSMUN Conference happening on May 6 to 8, 2022.
