WHY NOT ENGLISH?. A resident of an interior town of Negros Occidental invited his neighbors to watch on his TV set the SONA of President Aquino. The neighbors, mostly cane field workers, known locally as sacada, came but watched the President’s SONA for a few minutes, then left. An Ear informer quoted one sacada as saying: “Ngaa tinagalog gid? Mas maka-intiyende mi sang Iningles. Menosan lang si PNoy sa amon?”
ENGLISH A MUST. A Cebuano college instructor said PNoy should have delivered his SONA in English so that the foreign diplomats present and the international TV and internet audiences would understand. “Ug ang mga Pinoy abroad makapanghambog nga maayong mo-iningles ang atong Presidente dili parehas sa ubang Asean Presidents nga dili kamao.”
