Let's take good care of our hands

They say that this thing called "lingam massage" can prevent prostate cancer. Why didn't they tell me that before? Sayang!

* * *

I read in Renbor's news story that some people have to "cough up" to have their applications for permit signed in a City Hall office. Now I know why they call that office OBO.

* * *

Mayor Mike Rama has vowed to get rid of undesirables at City Hall. Easier said than done. But he must do it. And prove the "kurakots" wrong when they say: "It's easier done than said."

Has it ever happened to you that one of your two hands got sprained or, worse, fractured? If you have, you must agree with Joaquin "Quinito" Henson, for me the country's leading sportswriter/commentator.

* * *

Quinito figured in an accident not long ago where his left hand was fractured and needed surgical procedures. Pins and plate were "planted" as it were in his arm.

* * *

Quinito wrote in his popular "Sporting Chance" column in the Philippine Star: "With my left arm immobilized, I've come to realize the things I can't do with just my right hand."

* * *

"Like," he said,"tying my shoe laces or flossing my teeth or putting on my pants, especially with fly buttons or putting on a belt into the pant loops or strapping on my watch or clipping the nails in my right hand."

* * *

So let what happened to Quinito be a wake-up call for all of us who got healthy hands. Take care of your hands or you might lose the care of those hands.

I got this e-mail from a certain Fredo in New York. "Congratulations, Sir Jabat, in connection with the 91st anniversary of The FREEMAN ... Please extend my congratulations also to Sir Dodong ... I always read your paper on the Net."

* * *

Fredo who? He didn't give his family name. I remember only one Fredo in The FREEMAN during my watch as editor-in-chief. He was our proofreader, the best I have ever had the chance to work with. If you're the Fredo who e-mailed me, Fred, please get in touch with me again.
