Cry for good health

If you lost money, time and prestige in the last election and you're angry and hurting, don't put your emotion under wraps. Cry, Sir, cry! And let it be a no-holds-barred shedding of tears.

Holding your tears of anger or grief is bad for your health. It's not me claiming this but William Frey, a neuroscientist and author of the book "Crying: The Mystery of Tears." According to him crying releases stress, which makes it essential to our emotional health.

Scientists are discovering that crying — just like laughter — boosts the immune system and lowers blood pressure. One survey shows that 85 percent of women and 75 percent of men said they felt better after crying.

So when you feel like crying, says neuroscientist William Frey, don't fight it. Let the tears flow. It's a natural and healthy emotional response. Look at Kris Aquino. She's healthy because she cries a lot on tv.

I have always been a fan of Mar Roxas — as I've been a fan of his father and grandfather — and I felt bad about his defeat in the VP race. I wanted to cry but decided to laugh instead. Crying and laughing, according to the neuroscientist, have the same good effect on our emotional health.

"Why are you laugh?" Asked my friend Teddy using the texters' jejemon language. I said isn't it funny that Mar was licked by the people in his own camp? Banat News managing ed John Rey Saavedra calls them "Judases" and he calls Mar's loyalists "danghag."

I didn't know whether to cry or laugh at what happened to — or in — Mar's camp. I chose to laugh na lang. Same effect as crying. Wa pay luha nga mausik.

The rains are here. The farmers are happy. A group of young farmers made known to all their happiness by wrapping around their jeep a tarpo that said: "Welcome, RAIN. Diin man ka oy?" The jeep was seen speeding along N. Bacalso Ave. during the first heavy rain last Wednesday. Yes, welcome rain!
