NO THANKS. A group of volunteers of a foundation with their Manila boss toured the mountain barangays of Cebu for an ocular survey of different elementary schools to identify which schools in Cebu would be their intended beneficiary for their outreach program. As they were not familiar with the areas, they would often stop to ask for direction. They noticed that when they ask directions from elementary or high school students, they appeared shy and ready to bolt. When the group would offer the kids a ride in their van to their schools, they decline and would rather walk several kilometers than hitch a ride.
SHY GIRLS. Their Manila boss asked, “Talaga bang mahiyain sila o takot sila sa tao?” A Cebuano volunteer replied, “Takot sila dito sir, kasi baka kidnapin sila.” His fellow volunteer poked his companion and whispered, “Kuyawan sila nga ilawog ang mga bata sa tirong.”
