MANILA, Philippines — Many are expected to voice out their sentiments and join anti-corruption protests today as part of their democratic right.
Apart from actively expressing their right to freedom of expression, it is also important to take care of their health amid an influx of people in the metro and the threat of an incoming typhoon, expected to generate rains especially in the latter part of today’s activities.

Here is a list of things to bring to ensure a safe protest and rally.
- Bottle of water. It is important to hydrate well while out in the sun and among a crowd. Bring enough water to last the day.
- Umbrella, cap, light jacket, ponchos, raincoat. Bring protective gears, such as umbrella, cap and light jacket, to shield from the harmful rays of the sun. With typhoon Nando making its presence felt before its expected landfall in Northern Luzon tomorrow, it is best to bring a raincoat to keep dry.
- Sunscreen. Rain or shine, it is important to protect the skin from the harmful UVB and UVA rays of the sun.
- Comfortable shoes or boots. Since it is expected to be a whole day of rallies with one in Luneta in the morning and another later at 2 p.m. in EDSA, it is advised to wear comfortable shoes, such as running shoes or sneakers. It is also best to wear boots later in the afternoon in anticipation of the rains.
- Light shirts. While most are in black, wearing lighter shade clothes, preferably white, is better.
- Energy bars, candies or emergency food. A whole day of walking needs energy, and energy bars, light snacks and candies can help alleviate hunger pangs.
- Plastics, waterproof bags. Bring plastics to store mobile phones, cash, powerbanks, and other important documents.
Today’s rallies are expected to gather huge crowds in Luneta and EDSA. While it is important to practice everybody’s right to freedom of expression, it is equally important to be safe and to be model citizens by not leaving behind trash after these peaceful gatherings.
