MANILA, Philippines - Philippine STAR president and chief executive officer Miguel Belmonte was awarded as one of the most outstanding individuals by the Quezon City local government.
Belmonte, also the CEO of BusinessWorld, received the Quezon City Manuel L. Quezon Gawad Parangal during award ceremonies held at the SMART Araneta Coliseum on Monday night.
He was honored for his contributions in the business sector.
Also awarded were Raul Pangalangan (legal), Alberto Galarpe (public service), Ameurfina Melencio-Herrera (justice), Basilio Esteban Villaruz (arts), Kara Patria David (journalism), Ma. Lourdes Mangahas (journalism), Science Secretary Mario Montejo (public service), Brillante Mendoza (film), Rodolfo Modelo (education) and Leonor Briones (economic and finance).
Meanwhile, awarded as most outstanding institutions are the Technological Institute of the Philippines, Philippine Orthopedic Center, Project NOAH, Go Negosyo and Kapwa Ko, Mahal Ko.
Now on its 13th year, the Manuel L. Quezon Gawad Parangal recognizes individuals and organizations that inspire and set standards of achievement that exert a positive impact on society.
Named after the city’s founding father, the award aims to continue the tradition of accomplishment and excellence that Quezon exemplified when he envisioned the city.
“The award is not based on status or social standing. It recognizes exemplary, responsible partners in building the city and the country whose standards of service and performance are largely unsurpassed,” the city government said.
“They are heroes and leaders, movers and shakers from different sectors of society. These are people and organizations that the youth can connect with and relate to in this modern world: who inspire them to excel and contribute to the community and the nation,” it added.
