BAGUIO CITY, Philippines  – Baguio’s signature “Christmas chill” has officially started with the highland temperature dropping Monday morning to 13.5 degrees Celsius, causing a little bite among residents and dwellers in this city.

Government weathermen at the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Administration (PAGASA) said the temperature is so far the lowest since the so-called “ber” months came in.

PAGASA recorded Baguio’s lowest temperature in 2013 at 9.5 degrees  Celsius last January 14.

Coldest temperature in the highlands usually come in January, though the beginning of the cold weather usually comes in October.

On February 4, 2012, temperature dropped to 10 degrees Celsius. Exactly a year before the date, Baguio also recorded a chilling 9.4 degrees Celsius.

The coldest recorded here so far was 6.1 degrees Celsius in January 1961.

In recent years, the coolest so far  was 7.5 degrees Celsius in the morning of January 15, 2009.

PAGASA said it is anticipating a further temperature drop in the city in the coming days, sending excitement to local tourism, now preparing for its “Christmas in Baguio” offerings this early.
