BANGUED, Abra, Philippines — A shipment of frozen chicken weighing 400 kilos was intercepted at a checkpoint in San Quintin town in this province on Thursday.
Members of the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company (2PMFC) pulled over an Isuzu truck in Barangay Tangadan after receiving information that an illegal shipment would pass through the area.
Police said the driver failed to present permits for the transport of his cargo.
The frozen meat and the vehicle were turned over to the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian for evaluation and proper disposition.
Lt. Col. Igan Ballangan, chief of the 2PMFC, said that checkpoint operations are intended to curb the illegal transport of agricultural products as well as protect public health.
