COTABATO CITY, Philippines — A barangay councilor in Zamboanga del Sur was killed in an ambush over the weekend, the second in the province in a span of two days.
Brig. Gen. Bowenn Joey Masauding, Police Regional Office-9 director, said Barangay Lantawan councilor Joemar Requilme died on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds.
According to a report from the San Miguel town police, Requilme was riding his motorcycle when he was attacked at a secluded stretch of the highway in Barangay Poblacion.
On Friday night, Barangay Upper Dumalinao councilor Michael Virallo was also killed in an ambush in Zamboanga del Sur’s Dumalinao town.
Masauding said he has directed police probers in both towns to investigate the cases further to identify and arrest the assailants.
