Army intel officer shot dead in Rizal

Cpl. Christian Tapia, 30, was on a motorcycle when he was killed along Timberland Avenue in Barangay Malanday at around 1:50 p.m.

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — An Army intelligence officer was shot dead by suspected New People’s Army guerrillas in San Mateo, Rizal on Thursday afternoon.

Cpl. Christian Tapia, 30, was on a motorcycle when he was killed along Timberland Avenue in Barangay Malanday at around 1:50 p.m.

Witnesses said a gunshot prompted them to rush to the area. They found Silloga with a gunshot to the head.

The killing occurred as the Communist Party of the Philippines was celebrating its 56th anniversary.
