MANILA, Philippines —  Philippine National Police chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil lauded police officers who are helping ease the heavy traffic along Rolando Andaya Highway in Camarines Sur.

Marbil expressed his gratitude to the officers for managing traffic to ensure orderly travel along the highway during the Christmas season as repair works on some road portions damaged by recent typhoons continue.

“Our police officers’ commitment and hard work have brought significant relief to a situation that once saw traffic stretch over 17 kilometers. Without their efforts, the problem would have persisted,” Marbil, who inspected the highway on Monday, said in a statement.

Members of the Highway Patrol Group and local police stations implemented a 30-minute interval scheme, allowing vehicles from opposite directions to pass alternately, which in turn reduced congestion.

Marbil said that aside from traffic management, police officers also secured equipment of the Department of Public Works and Highways that are essential for road rehabilitation efforts.

“Our officers have demonstrated exceptional resourcefulness and dedication in addressing this challenge. Their 24-hour presence and efforts have made travel safer and more efficient for the public,” Marbil added.
