3 intelligence personnel killed in Basilan ambush

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Three military intelligence personnel were killed in an ambush near Lamitan City in Basilan Monday night.

Brig. Gen. Alvin Luzon, 101st Infantry “Three Red Arrow” Brigade commander, said the three fatalities had conducted a coordination meeting with several barangay officials “when they were fired upon on their way back to Lamitan City.”

Lt. Col. Arlan Delumpines, Lamitan city police chief, said no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

He noted that the place is considered a “critical area.” The brigade has already alerted the 1st Basilan Provincial Mobile Force Company (BPMFC), 53rd Special Action Company of the Special Action Force and the 18th Infantry Battalion for the conduct of a pursuit operation.
