Grandfather wins 6/42 lotto prize

MANILA, Philippines — A grandfather residing in Antipolo City, Rizal was the sole winner of the P16.6-million lotto 6/42 jackpot prize last Nov. 26.

The lotto bettor correctly guessed the winning combination 19-06-28-31-32-20, which carried a total prize of P16,687,823 before taxes.

A private sector employee, the winner said he has been an avid player of lotto since its inception in 1995, and made it a point to buy a lotto ticket after work.

He added that, over the years, he has won several second consolation prizes, hitting five of six numbers in various jackpot-bearing games.

The thrilled winner said he intends to use the money to acquire real properties, save for the future and provide educational support for his grandchildren.

Under the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion or TRAIN law, prizes exceeding P10,000 are subject to a 20-percent tax. Lotto 6/42 is drawn every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
