MANILA, Philippines — State volcanologists recorded a two-minute phreatic eruption on Taal Volcano in Batangas on Sunday.

The brief volcanic event brought Taal’s total number of phreatic eruptions to eight in the past week, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

Phivolcs said the eruption occurred at around 3:17 p.m. and generated plumes approximately 700 meters high.

No volcanic earthquakes were noted during the period, but sulfur dioxide emission was at 1,510 tons on Saturday.

Phivolcs said continued upwelling of hot volcanic fluids at the main crater lake has been observed in the past few days.
