Troopers rescue wounded guerrilla

CATBALOGAN, Samar, Philippines —  Troopers of the Army’s 8th Infantry Division (8ID) rescued and treated a wounded guerrilla following a recent  encounter in Las Navas, Northern Samar.

The guerrilla, identified as alias Bentoy,  was among 14 armed men who engaged soldiers in a firefight in Barangay Mabini on Sept. 12.

Bentoy and his comrades fled, but he was found by pursuing soldiers in nearby Barangay Lakandula.

Troopers treated Bentoy’s gunshot wound in the leg before transporting him to the Catubig District Hospital.

After receiving assistance, Bentoy surrendered to authorities, according to Brig. Gen. Efren Morados, chief of the Army’s 803rd Infantry Brigade.
