MANILA, Philippines — The White Beach on Boracay Island has been named as one of the 15 most beautiful white sand beaches in the world, according to a lifestyle magazine based in the United States.
“This aptly named, palm-lined beach on a small Philippine island has a season for everyone,” said an article published on the website of the Veranda magazine on Aug. 30.
“Nightlife is hopping” from December to May, while sumer and fall months were for “those who prefer a slower and quieter place,” the magazine said in describing the best season to book a trip to the White Beach.
The White Beach ranked sixth and is the only beach from the Philippines and Southeast Asia to make it to the list.
The other beaches on the list are the Shoal Bay in the Caribbean, Grand Anse in Seychelles, Whitehaven in Australia, La Cinta in Italy, Goose Rocks in the US, Playa del Paraíso in Mexico, Boulders in South Africa, Grace Bay in Turks and Caicos Islands, Clearwater in the US, Ksamil in Albania, Matira in French Polynesia, Trunk Bay in the US Virgin Islands, Ipanema in Brazil and Kauna’oa Bay in Hawaii.
The article described these beaches as “wild and natural” and requiring a boat or plane to access.
“Others are stocked with amenities such as resorts, restaurants and shops as well as activities such as swimming, snorkeling, diving, sailing, fishing, horseback-riding and biking,” it added.
The tourism office of Malay in Aklan, where Boracay Island is located, posted the recognition on its social media page on Sept. 8.
Boracay was named Asia’s leading luxury island destination at the World Travel Awards Asia and Oceania Gala ceremony held at the City of Dreams in Manila recently.
The world-famous island bested other nominees such as Koh Lanta in Thailand, Penang in Malaysia, Phu Quoc in Vietnam and Phuket in Thailand.
