MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health wants to meet with food vloggers in line with its efforts to regulate overeating or “mukbang” videos, a DOH official said yesterday.

Health Assistant Secretary Alberto Domingo expressed hope that mukbang content creators would sit down with DOH officials.

Domingo said Health Secretary Ted Herbosa raised the idea of meeting with food vloggers.

“It will be an open consultation with the content creators of mukbang videos. The DOH is open to that,” Domingo said.

He said the meeting aims to establish parameters on the possible regulation of food vlogging without violating the rights of the content creators.

“Some vloggers have been saying that they are willing to comply with the rules that will be imposed (on vlogging). We are interested if they have inputs,” Doming said.

Herbosa has said the DOH is considering banning mukbang videos following the death of vlogger Dongz Apatan.

Apatan, 37, died of a stroke on June 14 after reportedly eating fried chicken despite having high blood pressure.
