MANILA, Philippines — At least 100 sacks of cement fell from a truck along Quezon Bridge in Quiapo, Manila yesterday, causing traffic jams in the area.

The tail end of the traffic reached España Boulevard, reports said.

The 22-wheeler truck with license plate AAN-7066 came from Bulacan and was on its way to Cavite when the incident occurred at around 1 a.m., according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

The driver said he did not notice the bags of cement falling from the truck.

After deploying a payloader and dump trucks to collect the spilled cement and scrape those that had hardened, the MMDA declared Quezon Bridge passable to motorists at 8:30 a.m.

Traffic enforcers issued a citation ticket to the truck driver for road obstruction and an unsafe load of cargo.
