MANILA, Philippines — The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has joined the probe in the kidnapping and murder of two Chinese business executives, whose remains were found in Camarines Sur last month.
Col. Jean Fajardo, chief information officer of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said that apart from the Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG), the participation of the CIDG would help fast-track the investigation.
“The AKG and the CIDG are working together to speed up the investigation of the case,” Fajardo said yesterday.
Eight people were tagged as persons of interest in the murder of Xia Fu and Jimmy Sing Sun.
Fajardo said there are positive developments in the probe, but she declined to give details, citing a request of the victims’ families.
The victims’ remains were found in a ravine in Barangay Patitinan in Sagnay town on June 24. They arrived in the country on June 20.
Meanwhile, the chief of the Lemery police in Batangas has been relieved from his post in connection with the disappearance of two detainees tagged in a robbery incident.
Lt. Col. Ronnie Siriben was replaced by Lt. Col. Constancio Malaluan Jr. as officer-in-charge of the Lemery police.
The detainees had been ordered released by the Office of the Prosecutor for further investigation.
They failed to return home, prompting relatives to seek the help of the National Police Commission.
