MANILA, Philippines — Supporters and family members of former president Benigno Aquino III yesterday commemorated his third death anniversary.
Aquino’s nephew, Francis Aquino Dee, recalled the former leader’s guiding principle of “right is might.”
Dee praised Aquino’s efforts in securing the 2016 arbitral ruling that affirmed the country’s sovereign rights in the West Philippine Sea and voided China’s expansive maritime claim.
Dee also drew parallels between Aquino’s fight for justice and former senator Leila de Lima’s struggles.
De Lima attended the commemoration at the Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque before the trial of her last drug case at the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court, which acquitted her of all three charges.
Former senators Franklin Drilon and Bam Aquino, along with members of Aquino’s former Cabinet, also attended the event.
