MANILA, Philippines — Cases of photo and video voyeurism increased by nearly 26 percent this year, the Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) said yesterday.
Data from the ACG showed there were 175 cases of violation of Republic Act 9995 or the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act from January to May 2024, higher by 25.89 percent compared to 139 incidents during the same period in 2023.
Col. Jay Guillermo, who heads the ACG’s cyber response unit, reminded people to be wary about taking sensitive pictures and videos of themselves with their partners.
In the current digital age, Guillermo said explicit videos and photographs can easily spread online.
“Once this spreads on the internet, we no longer know who has access to it,” he said.
Among these cases is that of a man who was arrested in Barangay Malanday in Valenzuela City last June 3 after he threatened his ex-girlfriend that he would spread their sensitive photos and videos online.
