P100 million marijuana seized in Kalinga

MANILA, Philippines — Marijuana leaves and plants with an estimated value of P100 million have been seized and destroyed following separate anti-illegal drug operations in Tinglayan, Kalinga.

The Philippine National Police-Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG) said the raids were conducted on May 3 and 4 in the villages of Loccong and Buscalan.

Operatives seized an estimated 225 kilos of dried marijuana leaves and uprooted 122,500 fully grown marijuana plants in Barangay Loccong.

In Barangay Buscalan, the raiding team uprooted 212,000 marijuana plants with an estimated value of P42 million.

Another 45,000 fully grown marijuana plants with an estimated value of P9 million were uprooted and destroyed in a nearby farm.

Police said no one was arrested in the operations.

PNP-DEG chief Dioniso Bartolome Jr. commended his men for continuing the fight against illegal drugs.
