BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — The New People’s Army (NPA) has owned up to the recent killing of a civilian it accused of being an informant of the military in Binalbagan, Negros Occidental.

In a statement, JB Regalado, spokesman for the NPA-Leonardo Panaligan Command, said the guerrillas imposed a death penalty on a certain Ritoy Pedro in Barangay Amontay.

The NPA said it executed Pedro amid intensified military operations in the area.

Investigation conducted by the Binalbagan police showed the victim died from gunshots to the chest and neck.

Regalado said Pedro allegedly served as a guide during joint operations of the police and the military at the boundaries of Binalbagan and Isabela in Negros Occidental as well as of Jimalalud and La Libertad in Negros Oriental.

Pedro was the sixth victim of summary executions carried out by the NPA on Negros Island since last month. All victims were accused by the NPA of being military informants.
