PALO, Leyte, Philippines – Eastern Visayas has recorded seven confirmed cases of pertussis or whooping cough out of the 17 recorded this week.
This brings the total number of cases in the region to 48 as of April 6.
The Department of Health (DOH) regional office said 35 of the 48 cases are babies up to one year old.
Twenty-four of the cases were recorded in Leyte.
The DOH-Eastern Visayas Center for Health Development said it is coordinating with local government units in providing technical assistance, testing and information campaign to prevent the spread of the disease.
Cases of pertussis have been increasing in the region since January
