Fire hits Fabella hospital

MANILA, Philippines — A fire struck a portion of the Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital in Sta. Cruz, Manila before midnight yesterday.

The fire broke out at the mezzanine area of the doctors’ quarters on the second floor of the hospital, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)’s National Capital Region office.

Ten fire trucks from the BFP and volunteer groups responded to the site.

The fire was declared out at past 12 a.m.

Damage to property was placed at P1,000. Arson probers said loose electrical connections could have caused the fire.

In Las Piñas, a 17-year-old boy was injured and 11 families were left homeless after a fire broke out on Wednesday.

Authorities said Arelle San Esquivel suffered abrasions in his right leg.

The BFP said the fire started in a residential area beside Citywalk Admiral in Barangay Talon Tres at around 4:21 p.m.

At least 13 fire trucks responded to contain the blaze, which reached second alarm.

The fire destroyed six houses before it was declared under control at past 5 p.m.

Arson investigators said they have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
