MANILA, Philippines — Melon farmers in Taguig can harvest 30,000 kilograms of the fruit per hectare of land during summer, the city agriculture officer Emelita Solis said in a GMA News interview yesterday.
Speaking to the program “Unang Hirit,” Solis said 65 Taguig farmers in the city harvest varieties of melon such as honeydew and cantaloupe in the 113-hectare Sta. Ana Bukid as part of the city’s five-decade agrarian tradition.
In a statement, Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano said melon farming has been part of the history of the city, which held its fifth “Melon Festival” in Barangay Wawa near the Laguna Lake Highway on Monday.
