MANILA, Philippines — A retired Marine was arrested for allegedly firing a gun in Taguig City on Monday.
In a report, the National Capital Region Police Office said Juan Gencaya, 61, was arrested in Barangay Pinagsama at around 7:30 p.m. after residents notified police that a gun had been fired.
Gencaya presented his identification card as a retired Marine, firearm registration, a license to own and possess a firearm and an expired permit to carry the firearm outside his residence.
Police deemed the documents insufficient and arrested Gencaya on charges of alarm and scandal and illegal possession of a firearm.
Seized from Gencaya were a .45-caliber Rock Island Armory pistol, an empty shell and a magazine loaded with five bullets.
It is unclear why the suspect had the firearm and why he fired the weapon.
Gencaya is being held at the Taguig City police station.
