MALOLOS, Philippines — The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has established a fish sanctuary in Bulacan.
The fish sanctuary, which measures 1,000 square meters, was put up in the Angat River system in the area of Calumpit.
Wilfredo Cruz, BFAR Central Luzon director, said the project is part of the “Balik Sigla sa Ilog at Lawa Program.”
He said indigenous fish species such as ayungin, ulang, martiniko and dalag were stocked in the sanctuary.
The municipal government of Calumpit is expected to pass an ordinance that will protect the fish sanctuary.
Cruz said the fish sanctuary was a collaboration of the Bulacan provincial government, Calumpit local government, Boys Scout of the Philippines, Knights of Columbus Luzon North and Calumpit fisherfolk.
