ILOILO CITY, Philippines — A 61-year-old widow was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Ajuy, Iloilo on Saturday night.
Ledia Bainggan and her six-year-old grandchild were about to have dinner at their home in Barangay Pili when she was killed.
The victim was declared dead on arrival at the Sara District Hospital due to a gunshot to the chest, according to Lt. Gen. Enrique Robles, Ajuy police chief.
Reports said the victim heard their dogs barking, prompting her to go out to check what was going on.
Bainggan’s granddaughter told police she then heard gunfire. She said she saw a man fleeing on foot.
Probers are eyeing a land dispute as the motive for the killing.
