BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines — A total of 2,094 dengue cases have been recorded while six persons have died from the mosquito-borne disease in Cagayan Valley, the regional health office reported yesterday.
The cases recorded from Jan. 1 to June 4 was 1,000 percent higher than the 202 recorded during the same period last year, according to Janet Ibay, infectious disease cluster chief of the Department of Health-Cagayan Valley.
Ibay said the province of Isabela recorded the most number of cases with 967 and one fatality followed by Cagayan with 724 and five deaths.
Nueva Vizcaya logged 342 cases followed by Quirino, 59, and Batanes Group of Islands with two.
Among the patients were a 9-month-old baby and an 88-year-old man. A majority of them are 11 to 20 years old, Ibay said.
Residents have been advised to clean their surroundings and destroy possible breeding sites of mosquitoes.
They were also told to immediately seek medical help once they manifest any symptom of the disease.
