MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said yesterday the infographic that is spreading on social media that a new number coding scheme would be implemented on May 16 is fake news.
MMDA Chairman Romando Artes said the Metro Manila Council (MMC), composed of mayors in the metropolis, has yet to decide on the expanded number coding scheme.
Artes said the MMC would conduct further study for a new number coding policy to solve traffic congestion along major thoroughfares in Metro Manila.
Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto suggested the study on the number coding scheme, the MMDA chief said.
“There was also a proposal from the mayors to wait for the incoming administration before a new number coding scheme is enforced,” Artes said.
He said another proposal was to review the number coding scheme every three months.
