Bounty for CDO lawmaker son killers’ arrest now P12 million

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines — The reward for information leading to the arrest of the killers of barangay councilman Sherwin Uy, son of first district Rep. Rolando Uy, has been raised to P12 million.

The Uy family announced on social media that their political supporters and businessmen friends responded to a “peso-peso” campaign to increase the reward to anyone who can provide verified information on the identities of the gunmen and their accomplice.

Sherwin, 45, and their family caretaker, Samuel Pabalan, 67, were shot by unidentified motorcycle-riding men at the family-owned quarry between Barangays Pagatpat and San Simon on Nov. 11.

Sherwin, barangay kagawad of San Simon, was running for mayor in next year’s elections. He was buried yesterday.

Mayor Oscar Moreno had earlier announced that the city government was offering a reward of P2 million for the early resolution of the case. Friends of the Uy family contributed another P2 million.

Maj. Ivan Viñas, Cagayan de Oro police spokesman, said initial investigation showed that prior to the incident, two men were seen roaming the area.

Viñas said witnesses have submitted their affidavits, which would be used as evidence.

The National Bureau of Investigation is conducting a parallel probe.
