MANILA, Philippines — Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle will skip the installation of his successor, Cardinal Jose Advincula, as the 33rd Archbishop of Manila (RCAM) on June 24.

RCAM chancellor Fr. Reginald Malicdem said Tagle is at the Vatican and would not be able to attend the installation of Advincula.

“Cardinal Tagle is in Rome,” Malicdem, who is also the rector of the Manila Cathedral, said.

Malicdem served as Tagle’s secretary.

Tagle headed the RCAM from Dec. 12, 2011 to Feb. 9, 2020. He moved to the Vatican after he was appointed by Pope Francis as prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.

Last Feb. 22, the Vatican appointed Tagle as a member of the Administration of the Patrimony of the Holy See, the body that manages church assets.

Advincula was promoted to cardinal in November last year. He was designated as Manila archbishop on March 25.
