MANILA, Philippines — The Supreme Court has appointed retired associate justice Arturo Brion as chancellor of the Philippine Judicial Academy (PhilJA), which serves as the SC’s education arm.
Brion will officially assume the post on June 1, replacing retired SC associate justice Adolfo Azcuna.
Azcuna will end his term as PhilJa head on May 31.
Brion graduated cum laude at the Ateneo de Manila University Law School. He topped the 1974 Bar exams.
Prior to his post in the SC, Brion served as labor undersecretary and foreign affairs undersecretary.
He was appointed associate justice of the Court of Appeals in 2003.
Brion retired from the judiciary on Dec. 29, 2016.
