Malate police chief sacked

MANILA, Philippines — The chief of the Manila Police District (MPD) Station 9 in Malate has been relieved from his post for alleged neglect of duty.

Lt. Col. Robert Sales was placed on floating status by MPD director Brig. Gen. Leo Francisco.

Francisco designated Lt. Col. Cristito Acohon as the new MPD Station 9 commander.

Prior to his appointment, Acohon was deputy chief of the MPD intelligence division. He was previously assigned with the MPD Station 4 in Sampaloc.

A source from the MPD said Francisco conducted a surprise inspection at the Malate police station before 8 p.m. on Saturday.

Francisco was irked upon learning that there were only 15 police personnel on duty at the time, the source said.

Sales reportedly failed to account for his men, prompting Francisco to relieve him on the spot.

Francisco had ordered all personnel of the MPD Station 9 to report to work.
