MMDA eyes reopening of 2 EDSA U-turn slots

MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is considering the reopening of two U-turn slots along EDSA in a bid to ease traffic gridlocks during the Christmas season.

In an interview on ANC yesterday,  MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago said the agency is planning to reopen the U-turn slots along North Avenue and Congressional Avenue to decongest traffic in the metropolis.

“If we push through with the reopening of these U-turn slots, it won’t be like this. So we are looking for a new infrastructure to improve the flow of buses along EDSA such as elevated road or flyover. This would be a long term solution,” Pialago said.

So far, the MMDA has closed six U-turn slots along EDSA. These are situated near Oliveros Drive, Balintawak Market, North Avenue, Quezon City Academy, Corregidor street and  Dario Bridge.

The MMDA is set to close the Bagong Barrio U-turn slot on Dec. 7.
