MANILA, Philippines — Two men accused of throwing grenades at a police station in 2014 were shot at a birthday party in Tondo, Manila on Thursday night.
Jay-R Castolome, 37, was enjoying the party in the house of Alfredo Roy Elgarico along Younger street when two men barged in and shot them repeatedly at around 8:16 p.m.
Castolome died at the scene while Elgarico was taken to the Chinese General Hospital. The assailants escaped in a black sport utility vehicle, probers said.
They recovered at least 12 casings from 9mm and .45 caliber bullets at the scene.
Probers said the victims were arrested and charged in connection with three separate grenade-throwing incidents at the Manila Police District (MPD) Station 1 within six months in 2014.
A source at the MPD said Castolome and Elgarico have just been released from prison.
