MANILA, Philippines — The Sandiganbayan has ordered the forfeiture of P9 million worth of assets of former Manila vice mayor Danilo Lacuna and his wife.

The anti-graft court’s Third Division said it was convinced that Lacuna’s assets were “illegally acquired.”

Sandiganbayan magistrates found merit in the petition for forfeiture of unlawfully acquired properties filed by the Office of the Ombudsman against the Lacuna spouses in February 2012.

The court, however, reduced the amount of assets to be forfeited from P24,067,688.84 to P9,003,879.42.

The Sandiganbayan said the combined legitimate income of the Lacunas from 1998 to 2004 only amounted to P11.703 million while their acquired assets for those years amounted to P20.707 million.
