MANILA, Philippines — Former Commission on Elections chairman Benjamin Abalos Sr. has been discharged from the hospital after recovering from the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19, according to his son and former Mandaluyong mayor Benhur Abalos.
“He has been cleared of COVID-19,” Benhur said yesterday.
Benhur also tested positive for the virus. He said he remains in the hospital along with his mother, Corazon, who contracted the respiratory disease on July 17.
“She has developed antibodies and might be taken off the ventilator soon. We welcome this development because her condition worsened after she tested positive for the virus,” he said.
The elder Abalos, also a former Mandaluyong mayor, is 84 years old. His wife, who has vascular dementia, is 79.
