MANILA, Philippines — At least 40 families were left homeless when a fire struck a residential area in Binondo, Manila yesterday.
The fire broke out at a two-story residential building before spreading to 20 houses along Valderama street, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
Arson probers said the fire reached the third alarm before it was put out two hours later.
The BFP said an unattended lighted candle caused the fire.
The affected families are temporarily housed at the Jose Abad Santos High School, according to the city social welfare department.
