ILOILO CITY, Philippines — A soldier of the Army’s 301st Infantry Brigade was killed in an encounter with suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Lambunao, Iloilo yesterday.
The identity of the fatality was witheld pending notification of his family members.
Capt. Cenon Pancito III, 3rd Infantry Division spokesman, said government troopers were on security patrol and information dissemination on the coronavirus disease 2019 when they encountered around 20 members of the Baloy Platoon of the NPA’s Komiteng Rehiyon-Panay in Sitio Agilan, Barangay Panuran at around 5:45 a.m.
On Monday, soldiers in Samar foiled an alleged plot to ambush government forces in Cabiga town.
The military also foiled an attempt of NPA rebels to detonate landmines in Real, Quezon.
Six grenade rifles were seized in Barangay Biga, Polo, Oriental Mindoro.
