MANILA, Philippines — Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has tapped the city’s Human Milk Bank (HMB) to help mothers displaced by the eruption of Taal Volcano.

The HMB will donate an initial 40 bottles containing 100ml of pasteurized mother’s milk for infants in evacuation centers in Batangas, Belmonte said.

Another 200 milk bottles are also available for immediate distribution.

Belmonte said this is a simple gesture to help the affected residents after the Batangas provincial government called for mother’s milk donations.

Josephine Sabando, director of the Quezon City General Hospital, said the pasteurized milk was gathered through milk letting activities in coordination with the city health department.

The local government earlier provided 360 blankets, 360 sleeping mats, 300 partition tents and two mobile showers to Taal evacuees.

“We will continue helping our countrymen affected by Taal’s eruption para makabalik sa normal ang kanilang pamumuhay,” Belmonte said.
