MANILA, Philippines — At least 60 metric tons of garbage were hauled from Rizal Park from Christmas Eve up to yesterday morning, according to the city government of Manila.

More than 12 tons were gathered from Dec. 24 up to the morning of Dec. 25 while 51 tons were hauled from the afternoon of Dec. 25 up to 11 a.m. yesterday, said Julius Leonen, city public information chief.

The volume of garbage was way above what was gathered during the same period last year, he added.

Leonen did not give the figures on the number of visitors, but stressed that they came trickling in after the rains stopped before midnight on Wednesday.

The National Parks Development Committee said visitors to Rizal Park were reminded to “take their garbage with them or dispose them properly.”
