ARINGAY, La Union, Philippines — A barangay captain in this town was shot dead on Monday night.
Lourdes Parotina, 66, was watching television at her home in Barangay Pangao-aoan West when a man wearing a bonnet arrived and shot her in the head through an open window.
The victim was pronounced dead on arrival at the La Union Medical Center.
Probers took the cellular phone of the victim to check her text messages and determine if she had received death threats.
