MANILA, Philippines — A taxi driver was arrested by members of the airport police for allegedly charging a Chinese tourist and her friends P6,000 from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 to Terminal 1 on Friday.
Wang Wei filed a complaint before the Terminal 1 police station against the driver, identified as Eugene del Rosario.
Wei said she and her friends arrived at Terminal 3 at around 2 p.m. She said they boarded a white taxi with license plate TXV 149.
Wei said Del Rosario charged them P6,000, citing existing meter rates, and offered them a discount.
Fearing they might miss their flight back to China, Wei said they paid Del Rosario P6,000 and went to the Terminal 1 police to complain.
The Terminal 1 police coordinated with its counterpart at Terminal 3 and an alarm was issued against the taxicab.
Del Rosario was arrested at around 4 p.m. as he was lining up at the Terminal 3 taxi lane.
Police said they recovered from Del Rosario the P6,000 that the complainant paid.
Police said they are waiting for Wei to return to the station to formalize the complaint.
Records showed the suspect was driving without a license as it was confiscated on July 8 for illegal parking.
