MANILA, Philippines — A house painter was killed by a lone gunman in Quezon City on Wednesday.
Edison Esmeralda, 31, was walking along a street in Barangay Batasan Hills when the suspect approached him at around 10 p.m.
A report from the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said the assailant pulled out a handgun of unknown caliber and shot Esmeralda multiple times in the body.
Despite his injuries, the victim was able to run towards his house, where he sought the help of his relatives.
A witness told probers the gunman and a male companion boarded an L300 van that sped off towards an unknown direction.
Esmeralda was pronounced dead on arrival at the East Avenue Medical Center.
Probers retrieved seven bullet casings and a deformed slug at the crime scene. Investigators are looking for leads to determine the identities of the assailants and their motive.
