SANTIAGO, Isabela, Philippines — Retired Bishop Camilo Gregorio of Batanes died of cardiac arrest on Monday night, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines reported yesterday.
Gregorio, 78, had been confined at the Cardinal Santos Hospital in San Juan City since May 9 due to pneumonia, according to Batanes vicar general Fr. Leo Dayug.
On May 10, the bishop suffered a mild stroke as he was undergoing dialysis.
Gregorio was the fourth bishop of Batanes, a post he held from 2003 until his retirement last year.
He also served as bishop and auxiliary bishop of Bacolod and Cebu, respectively.
He was ordained in 1963 after finishing his studies at the University of Santo Tomas. – Kurt Adrian dela Peña
