MANILA, Philippines — A fire of still unknown origin broke out at a residential and commercial building at the back of Binondo Church in Manila yesterday morning.
The blaze started at Room 401 of the Wellington Building at the corner of Nueva and Oriente streets just before noon, the Manila Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported.
The fire reached third alarm at past noon and fifth alarm an hour later even as firetrucks from neighboring cities arrived.
Fire Superintendent Jonad Silvano said no one was injured in the fire but at least P5 million worth of properties were destroyed.
One of the residents said fire could have been caused by faulty wiring since the flames immediately spread to other rooms and they heard no explosions.
The BFP declared the fire under control at around 2 p.m.
